My current role

I have a specialist interest, with significant experience, in soft tissue and sports injuries plus shoulder replacements. I have a long-standing commitment to delivering outstanding, evidence based, compassionate care. I have a long-standing commitment to delivering outstanding, evidence based, compassionate care.

I am an internationally recognised for my expertise in shoulder research due to my strong academic research background, having undertaken a PhD in orthopaedic surgery from Oxford University, looking at improving rotator cuff failure.

I have won over £450,000 in research grants, including an ORUK early career development grant. I am currently undertaking a research programme investigating early prediction of shoulder arthritis, instability and improving shoulder replacements outcomes.

Previous history

Before joining CUH I worked as a consultant in Oxford at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre. I am triple fellowship trained from international recognised centres of shoulder excellence, having trained at Oxford, Cambridge and Reading, and spent a year at Hospital for Special Surgery in New York. I was awarded the BESS Travelling Fellowship. I was the co-director of orthopaedic teaching for Oxford University undergraduate medical students for 4 years. My Trauma and Orthopaedics higher surgical training was completed in Oxford.

I have been awarded number prizes, including a SheInspires Health Hero Award finalist, Outstanding Clinical Care Prize from Addenbrooke's Hospital, plus best research prizes from the British Trauma Society, British Elbow and Shoulder Society, SECEC (Shoulder and Elbow Community) and Oxford Deanery. I was awarded the British Orthopaedic Research Society Prize to attend a Future Leader’s Program.

Membership/accreditations

As part of a long-standing dedication to improving orthopaedic care for all patients abd doctors across the UK, I hold a number of national leadership roles.

  • I am a British Orthopaedic Association (BOA) council member, the main orthopaedic governing body in the UK.
  • I sit on the British Elbow and Shoulder Society (BESS) Research Committee.
  • I am an associate editor for Bone and Joint Journal 360, and was previously the social media editor for Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery.
  • I was until recently, an Executive Committee member for British Orthopaedic Research Society.
  • I am the Core Surgical Trainee lead for Orthopaedics.

Personal interests

I enjoy trying to keep up with my 2 young sons as well as painting, travelling and dancing.
