Reverend Mike Yates

Chaplain

Reverend Mike Yates

My current role

I have been a chaplain at CUH for since February 2022, and I find the work just as challenging and demanding as the first week I started. That said, it is incredibly rewarding, working in a multifaith team delivering pastoral care to a high standard to patients and staff alike.

I have learnt so much about pastoral care in a health care setting in this time, and this continues to challenge and develop my skills in delivering a service that people have come to trust.

Previous history

I have been a Christian since 1992, and have worked in the Community as well as local Church.

I trained at Moorlands Bible College in Christchurch on the south coast in 2000 - 2003.

I was ordained as a Baptist minister youth specialist in September 2010.

I worked as a detached youth worker for 20 years, creating a charity to support young people who socialise in ‘Open Spaces’, working closely with the emergency services and local authorities.

I have been a pioneer minister in two churches, 1 in Bournemouth and the other in Central Bedfordshire, before taking up this role as chaplain.

Personal interests

I enjoy socialising with friends and family (especially the grandchildren), football (watching not playing), golf (playing more than watching), and watching films.
