Ken Poole

University professor of metabolic bone disease

My current role

I am a professor of metabolic bone disease at the University of Cambridge, applying novel imaging techniques to investigate human bone diseases.

The other half of my time is spent running NHS clinical services for patients with metabolic bone diseases and specialised rheumatology needs.

Research in my group focuses on osteoporosis, osteogenesis imperfecta and other rare bone diseases by studying micro and macroscopic bone structure in health and disease.

I have supported the development of anti-sclerostin therapies in osteoporosis and osteogenesis imperfecta.

I am funded by the NIHR Cambridge Biomedical Research Centre and NIHR Research for Patient Benefit (RfPB) programmes to improve osteoporosis and vertebral fracture diagnosis in routine CT imaging data as Chief Investigator of the PHOENIX study.
