My current role
As a Guide in the Main Outpatients reception, I help to direct or accompany patients to their appointments promptly and calmly. The sheer size of the CUH site is daunting to patients who may have never been before.
CUH has cared well for my family over many years, and I try to treat patients as I would wish to be treated.
The governor role will give me the opportunity to use my experience from a volunteer perspective to make a difference for staff and patients.
Previous history
I was a Guide in Main Reception for five years, where I learnt a lot about the scale and layout of the CUH site, and the wide variety of visitors who come through our doors.
During Covid-19, I was at the drive-in Gog Magog site helping pre-booked patients to have PCR tests prior to their medical procedures.
Until 2020, I was a finance director in the paper industry, in businesses that produce hundreds of millions of cardboard boxes per year.
Personal interests
Outside of the NHS, I am a trustee of a final salary pension scheme, with a cash flow horizon going decades into the future.
In 2021, I took up walking football in a group run by Cambridge United for ages 50-99, so hope to have many years enjoyment ahead!
When we get the chance my wife and I like to travel in the UK and Europe to visit family and friends, see the sights, and sometimes to just chill out.
