1. Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and warm water.
2. Dry with a clean towel.
3. Twist off the grey protective cap.
4. Press the now exposed end of the yellow lancet device on the side of the tip of your finger.
5. Press the button which will prick the skin to form a drop of blood.
6. Hold your finger pointing downwards and squeeze gently towards the tip of your finger (“milking”) – this will make the blood drop larger.
7. Wait for the blood to flow and a hanging drop to form.
8. Allow one spot of blood to drop onto each of the circles on the blood spot card.
9. Try to complete at least two of the circles and ensure the blood has soaked through to the other side of the paper.
10. Do not apply multiple drops to the same circle.
11. Dispose of the lancet in your sharps bin.
12. Wash and dry your hands.
13. Ensure your personal details are completed on the form including the date of the sample.
14. Leave to dry overnight.
15. Place the dry card into the specimen bag and post in the envelope provided.
