Providing an analytical service across a range of tests for the diagnosis of disease and monitoring of health status.
Routine services are offered during normal working hours only. An emergency service is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The Department is located on Level 4 of the Pathology block.
The combined Biochemistry, Haematology and Immunology department is a UKAS accredited clinical laboratory and consists of the following sections:
- Automated laboratory (24 hour service, 365 days a year)
- Endocrine laboratory (8am to 4pm, Monday to Friday) including supra-regional assay services for referred Thyroid Function Testing, severe insulin resistance and Investigation of macrohormones
- Biochemical Genetics Unit including Newborn Blood Spot Screening (8am to 4pm, Monday to Friday)
- Immunology laboratory (8am to 8pm, Monday to Saturday)
- Core biochemical assay laboratory (8am to 4pm, Monday to Friday)
- Trisomy prenatal screening department (8am to 4pm, Monday to Friday)
- Diagnostic Haematology
- Blood Transfusion
- Specialist Haemostasis
Please note: routine biochemistry and endocrinology specimens are held for a maximum of 2 days.
