The stoma care service is a team of specialist nurses who are experts in the field of stoma care and are committed to supporting this patient group.
The stoma care service is dedicated to providing high quality, patient centred care to new and established stoma and ileoanal pouch patients, both as inpatient and outpatients.
The team visits patients whilst on the ward post-operatively, as well as providing support and long term advice as needed after discharge.
The team aims to support in the following ways:
- Giving pre-operative information regarding surgery, enhanced recovery and stoma formation
- Stoma siting advice pre-operatively
- Teaching practical stoma care
- Supporting patient and carers in adjusting to life with a stoma
- On-going telephone support and clinic reviews
