Tissue bank for samples from patients with haematological malignancies and normal individuals, including cord blood.
We also host the UK Myeloproliferative Disorders (MPD) sample bank, including several clinical trials for this group of disorders. Since our foundation in 2009, most of our work has involved recruiting and collecting samples and clinical data from patients both locally and nationally, in collaboration with clinical and research staff. Our team consists of a core sample processing and quality monitoring laboratory, and our research midwives and nurses liaise with clinical teams across Cambridge University Hospitals to recruit new and actively follow-up existing patients on the study.
Existing samples and prospective collections are available to researchers working on ethically approved studies in malignant blood disorders and normal blood development. Between 2010 and 2015 we transferred over 2500 samples to local, national and international research projects.
The CBSB is based in the NHS Blood and Transplant Cambridge Centre on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus. The laboratory and clinical teams are supported by the Cambridge NIHR Biomedical Research Centre, the Cambridge Experimental Cancer Medicine Centre, Wellcome Trust-MRC Stem Cell Institute and Bloodwise.
