As part of Volunteer Week, we are celebrating by sharing ward volunteer, Phoenix’s story. Thank you Phoenix!
My name is Phoenix. I first started volunteering as part of the YPP after which I became a supervisor and then a ward volunteer. I love getting to chat with so many different people from various backgrounds who all have many interesting stories to share.
Being in a hospital environment has helped me discover my career goals and interests within the medical field. But, no matter what your interests or aspirations are in life, you can certainly learn a great deal of skills, like communication and teamwork while volunteering at Addenbrooke's.
I have learnt so much about myself and how the NHS works while also giving back to the community and helping in any way I can around the wards.
Having the ability to brighten someone's day with a chat or a simple cup of tea is the highlight of my week! It's truly amazing how a few hours of our time can make such a big difference in a patient's hospital experience
