Hello! My name is Zoe Mill, and I am a Senior Projects Manager (Capital Planning and Development, CEFM)
I started my working life at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in the Works Department in May 1989, age 16, as an Administration Clerk during the summer holidays. I was due to attend Cambridge Regional College in the September that year, to start at 2-year full time typewriting/word processing course. An opportunity arose for a full-time position incorporating day release at CUH, so I could still gain my qualifications.
I am still here and in my 34th year, having also met my partner (David Baffa) at work too!
My journey working at CUH has been varied, I have worked in administrative and project management roles across a number of teams within Capital, Estates and Facilities Management (CEFM). To name just a few, I was part of the original ‘2696’ Helpdesk team what that was first set up in the late 1980’s (now the Facilities Helpdesk), and then went onto support the Works Labour Manager, and then into telecoms undertaking the technical programming associated with the management of call routing via the telephone exchanges which were then in use.
In June 2017 I became a Project Manager within Capital Planning and Development, then gained a position as Senior Project Manager in November 2020, which is my current role.
I'm responsible for leading Capital Schemes; I procure and manage design team consultants and building contractors throughout a project lifecycle. I lead on design reviews with several key internal and external stakeholders such as the clinical team, CEFM teams and external suppliers for specialist equipment. I assist with the preparation of the pre-tender estimate and carry out construction evaluations during the tender stage and procure the winning bidder. I manage the delivery of the construction/technical commissioning stage with support from Project Engineers and Operational Maintenance Approved Persons. I oversee the Project Managers within the team in training and mentoring them and guiding them as part of the operational commissioning plan for clinical occupation.
I feel proud that I am part of a supportive team that provides new and improved facilities for our staff and patients.
I am proud of all I have been able to achieve, the ‘You Made Difference’ nominations, the qualifications I have been able to gain, the opportunity for further learning and to pass on knowledge and skills to others. CUH – it’s a great place to work.
