Natasha Jones, advanced specialist dietitian in haematology is also an Army Reservist Arming Loading Point Commander (ALPC) with 6 Regiment Army Air Corps. Here Natasha tells us more about both roles.
I am Natasha, and have worked at CUH as a Haematology Dietitian for 14 years. My role is to provide nutritional advice and management of patients with blood cancers and those undergoing stem cell transplant. I also look after teenagers and young adults with haematology or oncology diagnosis.
For the last 9 years I have been an Army Reservist at 6 Regiment Army Air Corps. As part of my Reservist role I am an Arming Loading Point Commander (ALPC) who is responsible for commanding the team to upload ammunition and refuel the Apache Helicopter. I have been out to Arizona with my regular counterparts to rearm and refuel the Apache helicopter during pilot’s annual training.
Receiving the Reservist of the year award was one of the highlights of my military career.
My department managers at CUH are really supportive of my military role and allow time off for courses and exercises.
Both roles give me the opportunity to broaden my leadership skills improving my skill set for further career development.
Being a advanced specialist dietitian in haematology can be emotionally demanding but having my military role has enable me to change my focus during difficult situations and maintain a level mind.
