Hello. My name is John Callaghan and I am one of the Incinerator Shift Managers working within BU10.

I started here at CUH in October 1997, initially as a distribution assistant within Estates and Facilities. I then moved into the waste team, eventually moving into BU10 as a boilerman. I then continued my training and moved into the Incinerator Shift Manager position which is the role I currently hold.
My usual day consists of ensuring that the two clinical waste incinerators comply with all regulations and are run in a safe manner. I also look after the boilerhouse.
The waste we burn creates steam which is then distributed throughout the site to keep patients and staff warm and provides hot water - creating energy from our waste.
We're providing an important service that benefits the Trust.
