Establishing, updating and maintaining the Cellular Therapy networked database used for transplants.
What is your proudest achievement / project you have worked on as a healthcare scientist?
Helping to implement Peripheral Blood Stem Cell transplants in the 1990's. It was a totally new concept in leukaemia treatment. It was transformative for patients and has saved many lives.
How are advancements in science and technology shaping your role?
If you are standing still, then you don’t realise you are going backwards. In biological science, genetic modification has been a huge advance and is still in its infancy. In technology, huge amounts of treatment data allow more accurate and advanced patient treatment.
Can you share an example of a recent scientific advancement in your field?
Treatment of patients with CAR-T cells for lymphoma. This is now expanding to other malignancies.
