What does your job involve?
Providing vascular diagnostic imaging, predominantly ultrasound, for patients with arterial of venous pathology.
What’s the best thing about your job?
The combination of independent practice, hands on patient interaction and the application of scientific practice.
What qualifications led you to this role?
An original degree in Sports Science, followed by work experience as a health care assistant and a subsequent acceptance onto the Scientist Training Programme (STP) with an MSc in Clinical Science.
What career opportunities are available?
After qualification, career opportunities can extend to research roles, advanced interventional practice, positions on professional body committee groups, working with national screening programs and management positions.
Do you have advice for someone interested in a career in healthcare science?
No matter what age or level of qualification, my best advice is to contact a department for the specialty you might be interested in and ask if you can observe for one day. It will not only grant you valuable experience if you wish to pursue it further, but also increase your understanding of the role and established more clearly if it matches your own interests and ambitions.
