March’s You Made A Difference Team Award goes to the Lewin Stroke and Rehabilitation Unit for the excellent quality of care given by the multi-disciplinary team.
The Lewin ward is a 26 bedded unit specialising in stroke and neuro rehabilitation. It is very much a multi-disciplinary unit with a number of separate teams working alongside each other to promote the patient’s best interest.
Together they make the Lewin a great place to be looked after and a great place to work as the care they provide is instrumental in helping patients return home after a stroke or a brain injury. The team have looked after some incredibly challenging cases and deal with these individuals with the utmost care and efficiency.
This is reflected in the team’s winning nomination, an extract of which told us:
“I would like to nominate this Unit as I have recently been reminded of the excellence of care provided to all stroke patients with equality and determination. I recently reviewed in detail the medical notes of a 51 year old man who spent several months on the Lewin Unit recovering from a stroke. He has subsequently learned to walk again, and is planning on returning to work.
During my review of his notes I was impressed by the input provided by all the therapy teams. It was clear the multi-disciplinary team went above and beyond in helping this gentleman recover.
"People very rarely say "thank you" to each individual member of staff, so I am nominating them for this award so I can say a big "thank you" to each and every one of them.”
