September's You Made a Difference team award goes to a team that provides an efficient essential service to our frontline colleagues - the Medical Records team.
The Medical Records team makes sure that vital patient information is recorded and stored accurately, so their frontline colleagues can access it at any time and at any place. They work alongside internal, external and international healthcare providers, sharing patient information, to ensure the care of our patients continues seamlessly.
The team continues to work on site daily to ensure that they provide our services to patients, their relatives and all health care providers. Helen Edwards, health information management (HIM) and patient services senior team leader, advised:
As a team, the patient is always at the heart of the work that we do.

“From the scanning of clinical information, to ensuring that a patient’s clinical record is always up to date, or processing of the paper clinical correspondence that is sent daily to external health care providers.”
This is reflected in the winning nomination from an external health care provider, extracts of which told us:
“I would like to nominate the Medical Records team for all the help that they have given me over the years. I work for the Community Parkinson’s and Neurology Nurses based in West Suffolk and I literally could not do my job as effectively without them there!
“I know that I am able to contact the Medical Records team and they will retrieve important information for me, generally on the same day, which really helps if a patient has called a nurse about a letter they have received."
The work they do really makes a huge difference to patient care and makes for a ‘seamless’ service between the two departments.
“They are an amazing team and are so helpful they really deserve the recognition this award will bring.”
