A senior sister who had a profound impact on a colleague’s life is one of our winners of the June You Made a Difference awards.
Senior charge nurse Savita has been part of the Neurosciences Critical Care Unit (NCCU) team since joining CUH from overseas in 2004. During this time, Savita has seen the unit transform from a handful of beds to the neuro intensive care unit it is today – an acute neurosurgical service for all of East Anglia and adjacent parts of other counties providing care for neurosurgical patients, major trauma patients and patients who have had a traumatic brain injury.
Savita has been a mainstay of critical care for the past twenty years, undertaking a wide range of responsibilities including recruitment, rostering, ward emergency contact, co-ordinating all adult critical care areas and providing clinical and managerial support to her colleagues within NCCU and Critical Care.
Savita is always kind and shows a passion for nursing and her patients.
Extracts from Savita’s nomination, submitted by a colleague, said:
“Savita’s unwavering support and compassion has profoundly impacted my life, especially during a time of immense personal loss.
“I transitioned to the NCCU this year and I have genuinely never been part of a better team.
“In April, my father suddenly passed away. This loss came on the heels of losing my mother, leaving me deeply grief-stricken at a young age.
Savita demonstrated unparalleled kindness and support, telling me that "we are a family, and we will be your family and help you through this."
“Savita's actions went far beyond the call of duty. Her empathy provided me with a sense of belonging and support that I desperately needed.
She has created a nurturing environment within our team, fostering a sense of community and family.
“I have never experienced such kindness and compassion in my entire life. Savita's dedication to her team, and her willingness to support me during a horrendous time, is a testament to her extraordinary character and leadership. Savita’s actions have had a profound impact on my life and I am deeply grateful for her support and kindness.”
