Staff at Addenbrooke’s and the Rosie maternity hospital are supporting an organisation dedicated to improving quality and safety in healthcare.
They have taken part in a film aimed at introducing The Healthcare Improvement Studies (THIS) Institute, which is part of the Department of Public Health and Primary Care at the School of Clinical Medicine, the University of Cambridge.
THIS Institute, made possible by thanks to the independent charity The Health Foundation, is on a mission to work with patients, staff, and stakeholders to create credible and actionable evidence for improving quality and safety in healthcare.
The film is narrated by Joanne McPeake (opens in a new tab), Professor of Nursing in the Department of Public Health and Primary Care at the University of Cambridge and Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
It includes images such as CUH staff going about their roles, including Dr Neo Christodoulou and Health Care Support Worker Cara Mutter working in the busy outpatients’ department at Addenbrooke’s.
It captures loyal volunteers Liz and Brian giving patients directions, and Healthcare Support Worker Than Gurung in the new Surgical Movement Hub.
Finally, midwife Laura Rayner is filmed showing a young couple around a birthing suite. All patient parts were played by actors.
The film will get its debut at THIS Institute’s annual online conference, called THIS Space, at 10am on Tuesday 26 November 2024. The conference aims to share learning on what works in healthcare improvement, what doesn’t, and why, with discussion topics ranging from over-testing and over-diagnosis to responsible data science and healthcare innovation
CUH chief Nurse Lorraine Szeremeta said: “As a Trust which puts patient safety at their heart of everything we do, we are delighted to be working with THIS Institute.”
THIS Space 2024 is free but booking is essential at THIS Institute - The Healthcare Improvement Studies Institute (cam.ac.uk) (opens in a new tab). Registration closes on Monday 25 November at 4pm.
