Industrial action in the form of strike action by members of the British Medical Association (BMA) will take place at CUH as follows:
- Hospital consultants – from 07:00 on Thursday 24 August to 07:00 on Saturday 26 August
Our key focus is on providing safe care for patients who need urgent and emergency services, and those receiving inpatient care in our hospitals.
Non-urgent advice: Short notice cancellations
Important
Due to strike action, we may need to cancel your appointment at short notice on the day of strike action, and we are sorry in advance if this happens.
We appreciate this will be frustrating and we will rearrange your appointment as quickly as possible.
We will prioritise resources to protect emergency treatment – including managing life and limb-threatening conditions, critical care, neonatal care and trauma.
If you have an appointment planned during this time
During industrial action, we need to reduce the number of appointments we have planned to ensure we have safe levels of staffing. We will contact patients directly if this means that their appointment will need to be postponed.
We know how disappointing and worrying this will be for those waiting for treatment and we are very sorry this is the case.
If you do not hear from us, please attend your appointment as planned. We will usually contact you by phone, and if you have MyChart – our electronic patient portal, your appointment will show as cancelled.
Unfortunately, we may need to cancel your appointment at short notice on the day of strike action, and we are sorry in advance if this happens.
We appreciate this will be frustrating and we will rearrange your appointment as quickly as possible.
If you need medical care
Critical services are protected, so it is really important patients who need urgent medical care continue to come forward as normal, especially in emergency and life-threatening cases.
If you need medical care or advice, please call the NHS 111 helpline, or visit NHS 111 Online (opens in a new tab).
Please contact NHS 111 if:
- You need medical help fast, but it's not a 999 emergency.
- You don't know who to call for medical help or you don't have a GP to call.
- You think you need to go to A&E or another NHS urgent care service; or.
- You require health information or reassurance about what to do next.
During strike action, we will prioritise resources to protect emergency treatment – including managing life and limb-threatening conditions, critical care, neonatal care and trauma.
We will keep this page updated with the latest information.
