About Clinical Engineering Innovation

Our aim is to translate engineering research into clinical practice. We do this through an inside-out model of innovation: seeking out unmet clinical needs in the NHS and designing solutions.

Clinical Engineering Innovation (CEI) is the Trust’s in house team of engineers and scientists aiming to translate innovative medical technologies into patient benefit. CEI aims to identify new unmet clinical needs within the Trust, working with clinical staff to develop concepts and translate these into innovative medical technologies and processes to benefit patients, staff and the wider health economy.

Our team of experts have the skills and technical experience to manage the innovation pathway - from identifying needs and solutions, through design and prototyping the concepts, testing and clinical testing as well as Intellectual Property (IP) advice and implementation.

If you are a member of staff at CUH with an idea to help solve an issue, please get in touch with us to have an initial discussion. Clinical Engineering Innovation also works with the medical technology industry and design and development consultancies so they can access the facilities, skills and expertise of staff within our Trust.

CEI collaborates across a diverse network as a multi-disciplinary, cross-sector team combining capabilities in engineering, technology and innovation.
