Our HR team provides expert support in recruitment, employee relations, training, and wellbeing services to ensure the smooth running of our hospitals.
The directorate is represented at the Board and led by David Wherrett, Director of Workforce and supported by a senior HR team responsible for HR strategy and operational services.

Operational HR
This service provides expert advice on employee relations issues, organisational change, workforce planning and development provided by a small team of OD Managers to the clinical divisions and corporate areas.
HR Consult
An advice and support service to managers and staff, provided by a small team of HR Advisers. It is available Monday to Friday as well access to a 24/7 e-HR Consult information page covering all aspects of employment.
Recruitment services
HR provides a central recruitment service to managers and candidates, ensuring safe recruitment practices are in place.

Policy
Working with staff to make sure we have policies that follow the law and best practices.
Equality and Diversity
Helping the Trust meet its duties and be a good example. This includes:
- Running the Equality and Diversity Steering Group and Staff Group.
- Engaging with external networks and ensuring corporate compliance.
- Supporting and guiding different teams.
HR Standards
Making sure we have the right HR records to meet local and national standards (like NHSLA and CQC).

Keeping the e-HR Consult system updated and working well.

Orientation and training of health care assistants and health care support workers

provide a wide range of training to managers and staff including co-ordination of mandatory training
Work opportunities
provision of Apprenticeship/Cadet programmes, including support to participants, mentors and managers; liaison with schools/colleges, work experience co-ordination and widening access initiatives
Leadership and management development
Provision of a range of programmes and interventions for supervisors and managers.
Workforce Information
We provide workforce information for the Trust, managing and improving the Electronic Staff Record (ESR) and Workforce CHEQS database, as well as creating reports for managers and KPI updates for the Board and Divisions/Corporate
Medical Staffing
Provides a full support service to all medical staff in the Trust.
