Addenbrooke's Gallery

Julia Ball, Quy Fen

The CUH Art Collection – initially called the Addenbrooke’s Art Project – was started in the 1980s by a group of passionate staff and clinicians. Their vision was that the presence of artwork would enliven and meaningfully improve the hospital environment and patient experience. CUH Arts now manages the collection and as part of our mission to shape care through creativity, and works populate the walls across the hospital.

Through generous donations from patients and artists, CUH Arts grows and refreshes the collection. This display features some newly donated or reframed artworks that are looking to be installed in public-facing spaces in the hospital. The artists on display have differing practices which span the 20th Century, featuring; Julia Ball, Bernard Buffett, Elizabeth Blackadder, Julian Trevelyan, Stella Rankin and Alan Howlett.

CUH Arts is always on the lookout to find locations across our hospitals which would benefit from the inclusion of artwork. The works on display here are all looking for a new home, and we welcome your suggestions.

To nominate your department, ward, unit, space or floor, please drop us an email to cuh.arts@nhs.net to request an artwork. When the exhibition comes to a close we will contact all those who have been in touch to continue the conversation!

We are grateful to Addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust for supporting a programme of reframing which allows us to bring older collection works back into exhibition condition, to be enjoyed for many years to come.
