CUH Arts were asked by the Xray and Estates teams to help two of their Xray rooms become more child friendly, one in the Emergency Department and one in Outpatients.
Inspired by the clinical team's request to have something that distracts and interests the paediatric patients, Viola Wang created a fantastical world of fauna and flora, called 'Hidden Realm'.
In Outpatients, the animals are inside a giant rabbit, who is hiding (very successfully) behind the wall mounted detector holder. In A&E the family of Tigers sit proudly watching out for you. The colourful plants and friendly creatures provide points of interest to get children searching – how many different animals can be found during your appointment! The designs will hopefully reduce anxiety and provide a positive experience for our young patients. Viola has also created two sticker designs for brave patients (young and old) to proudly show 'I've had my Xray!'
The artwork has really helped our younger patients engage with their imaging and relax throughout the examination…it has made a great improvement to our area for patients and staff alike Thank you!
