Mrs Barbara Hilgier

Barbara is a maxillofacial prosthetist with qualifications from Poland in dental technology obtained in 2009.

In 2013 she gained a Postgraduate Certificate in Dental Technology from Cardiff Metropolitan Univerity. Since then she progressed her studies further and completed her Master of Science in Maxillofacial and Craniofacial Technology from King’s College London in 2017. She continues to be dedicated to prosthetic rehabilitation of patients following cancer treatment, trauma, and those born with congenital deformities.

She is passionate about aiding psychological rehabilitation and improving quality of life by providing life-like facial prosthesis to her patients.

Barbara is filmed building patient Leo an artificial orbit, which is the space within the skull that contains the eye, the eye itself, eyelids and the glands that make tears. She also includes part of an eyebrow. In addition, she uses her considerable talents – a combination of art and science - to make a partial ear for Roger.

In her spare time Barbara enjoys cycling and outdoor activities with her family, traveling, and cooking new dishes from around the world.
