Animesh has been a consultant plastic and reconstructive surgeon for over 10 years.
The bulk of his workload is dealing with skin cancers and his practice covers the full-breadth of skin cancer operations - skin lesion excision and reconstruction, sentinel lymph node biopsy for melanoma, and lymph node operations at all sites of the body. He also has an interest in rare skin tumours, including skin cancers in children, for which he performs specialised surgery.
Animesh has huge experience in microsurgical reconstruction, in patients of all ages, and regularly uses these advanced techniques in reconstructing cancer and trauma defects, as well as congenital anomalies.
He is currently the lead for Head and Neck Reconstruction at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, and works alongside colleagues in oral surgery, ENT and neurosurgery to carry out complex reconstructive surgery for patients with cancers of the head and neck. He also works across all body sites, such as alongside colleagues in colorectal surgery and urology in the management of patients with advanced pelvic/perineal cancers.
As part of the Addenbrooke's Major Trauma Centre, Animesh regularly deals with patients who have had traumatic injuries to the upper and lower limbs, repairing soft tissues, nerves and tendons.
In Animesh’s skin cancer practice, he regularly operates on patients with facial skin cancers, and Animesh is filmed assisting patient David who has two cancerous lumps on the cheek and scalp.
Animesh has strong links with the University of Cambridge Clinical School, and supervises student doctors who choose plastic surgery placements. Animesh has published a number of book chapters, and regularly has work published in renowned journals and presented at scientific conferences.
When not working, Animesh likes to spend time with his family, and his two young boys keep him very busy!
