Mission Statement

To locate, collect, preserve and list all historically important material and artefacts from:

• Addenbrooke’s Hospital
• The Rosie Hospital
• Any related organisations

And to provide access to them in compliance with national legislation and existing guidance.

Collection policy

Our archive primarily collects records of long term legal, administrative, epidemiological, and historical value produced by the hospital. This includes those of predecessor bodies.

As the hospital grows and develops, the archives has an essential role to play in:

• preserving historical documents and artefacts of the hospital and its related organisations
• encouraging the continued deposit of material worthy of permanent preservation.

We have a part-time archivist who:

• Looks after the storage and organisation of materials and objects in the archives.
• Carries out research in response to straightforward enquiries. Advises researchers on more complex subjects.
• Encourages donations of archival material relating to our hospitals and related organisations. Encourages depositing of material about those with a connection to the hospital.
• Has developed an Outreach programme with the aim of encouraging the use of the Archives.

The aims of the archivist

• Manage the collection at this recognised 'place of deposit'
• Develop the use of the archives for academic purposes and to local interest groups
• Raise the profile of the archive both within the hospital and in the local community
• Ensure its growth and development for the future.
